Jeremy Fry
Equipment/Diesel Technician
Jeremy Fry Equipment/Diesel Technician"One of the highlights of my equipment technician career came at the age of 25. I fabricated, applied for a Patent Pending, and brought to market a mechanical master pin removal tool for use on dozers and excavator tracks. I have 2 years remaining on a 10-year contract with WTC Machinery in Wisconsin. I credit this as a result of my career as an equipment technician. I may not have made a million dollars from my efforts, but again, that is a reward that definitely goes beyond a paycheck!"

Eric Sixel
Equipment/Diesel Technician
Eric Sixel Equipment/Diesel Technician"This is a high-tech, professional job that requires discipline, sacrifice and hard work, but the end result is very rewarding. It goes way beyond just being a mechanic. In field service, you are representing your employer when driving up to a job site. The customer wants to know that a real pro is working on their expensive equipment. I'm glad that I have an opportunity to be that pro! You can take a career like this and go as far you want."

Brian Callanan
Equipment/Diesel Technician
Brian Callanan/Diesel Technician"I became interested in working on mobile equipment as a career several years ago while attending a commercial driving school and later worked as an apprentice technician at a trucking company. After some research, I found that there was a great AED Accredited program near where I lived, so I applied. I had a great experience last summer working as an intern for Milton Caterpillar at their Scarborough, ME branch. There, I was exposed to various departments including construction equipment, power generation, marine propulsion, and trucks. I also had the good fortune to spend time training with managers of various departments."

Brian Callanan/Diesel Technician"My path towards choosing a career as a heavy equipment diesel technician began many years ago. As a young child I, like many other boys, was fascinated by big construction machines and the large dump trucks that worked on construction sites. My dad worked in construction; my mom would bring my brother and me to some of his job sites to visit him and see the equipment at work. Dad was a member of the H.C.E.A. (Historic Construction Equipment Association) and often worked on someones old backhoe, excavator, or crane on the weekends. I went with him on these jobs as his official "go-fer" doing whatever I could."

Brian Callanan/Diesel Technician"If a student is interested in a career in the technician field, and is interested in working for a larger company, two sources for information would be the Lake Area Technical Institute website and the Butler Machinery website. Both of these sources supply great information about the requirements and rewards of the program. Another great source is your local Butler Machinery dealer. Managers at these stores are very willing to take time to talk to you about what they have to offer and walk you through their stores."
